Taiiku-no-hi or Physical Fitness Day
(October 10)

   In Fall, fine weather prevails and many kinds of sports can be enjoyed. Physical Fitness Day is obserbed on October 10, as a national holiday which was created in commemoration of the opening day of the Tokyo Olympic Games in 1964. The aim of setting this national holiday is to encourage the people to enjoy sports.
   Schools usually hold undo-kai or athletic meets in spring or fall. The fall undo-kais are held on or around Physical Fitness Day.
